RESUMÉ DUSHI KÒRSOU

The folkloric dance group “DUSHI KÒRSOU” which means “SWEET CURAÇAO” was founded on February 17th 1973. It’s a folkloric group that tries to show the popular exhibitions of the island and tries to enhance our culture and also promote our tourism.

From the beginning the group DUSHI KÒRSOU was directed by Gilbert Meriën.

DUSHI KORSÒU consists of several male and female dancers and has its own folkloric band that accompanies the dancers at the many presentations.

The main goal of the general director of the group is to maintain and perform our original dances, like the Waltz, Mazurka, Tumba, Tambú etc. The dance group also performs mainly in our typical costumes.

DUSHI KÒRSOU has contributed to the elevation of the cultural conscience of the island. The group has been designated on numerous occasions to represent the island in different  cities and countries, to name a few; Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad, Costa Rica, Argentina, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Sto. Domingo, Miami, Washington, New York, Germany, Belgium and China.

The director of DUSHI KÒRSOU is very proud and satisfied to know that he was able to contribute with the promotion of his island.

During its existence DUSHI KÒRSOU has received several honors. It has also won different prizes in Curaçao entertainment like: “Folklore Group Of The Year” and “Galardon Vitrola”.

For the group DUSHI KÒRSOU it is very important to be able to reach its goal:

    Enhance our culture and promote our tourism abroad.

MOTIVATION

We believe in the importance of our culture. That is why 45 years ago we choose to extend a helping hand, when we first started in the cultural area.

In 1973 we founded a folkloric group “DUSHI KÒRSOU” based on the necessity and importance to give our tourists something unique, typical and unforgettable to remember us by and to return to Curaçao.

Since that time we were already aware that our culture should be considered a mainstay in our community.

We are convinced that every native on this island should contribute positively to our country and community.

This is our motivation and is what we are practicing for years;

To enlarge our culture, especially in the folkloric area, maintain its originality, exhibit, exchange and promote our dances, not only locally, but also abroad.
